check your browser

Be sure you’re using a browser with SSL capabilities. SSL browsers include Netscape 2.0 and above, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 2.0 and above, and the America Online’s Web browser version 3.0 for Windows and above. To check your browser version, open your browser and look for the help menu. From there, scroll down and select “about”. The dialog box that appears should display a version number.

If you don’t already have a browser with SSL capabilities, here are some links to popular browsers Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or AOL.

protect your password

When creating a password, choose one that is easy for you to remember, but hard for anyone else to figure out. One way to create a secure password is to use a phrase of two or three words and add a two or three digit number. Avoid choosing obvious words or dates such as a nickname or birthdate.

Keep your password secret. If you believe someone else has gained access to your password, change it immediately.

sign out

When you’re done shopping, it’s always a good idea to sign out of your account. This prevents others from using the “back” button to view any information you entered.

avoid public computers

Computers in hotels, libraries and the corner coffee shop are convenient for surfing or checking email. But be aware that these terminals are not always secure. It can be risky to transmit personal information on them.
